things to do in sarasota this weekend june 4-7

Summer is wasting no time settling into Sarasota.

The mornings are warmer, the afternoons are stickier, and the “quick errand” suddenly feels like it should come with a bottle of water and a backup shirt.

But even as the pace slows down, the weekend calendar still has plenty of life in it.

This weekend brings a free movie at The Bay, Laser Light Nights at The Bishop, live music at UTC and Lakewood Ranch, Fresh Fridays in downtown Sarasota, the Foodie World Asian Food Festival at J.D. Hamel Park, Zumba on The Green, Dad’s Day fun at UTC, SRQCon at Selby Public Library, the St. Armands Craft Festival, rooftop pool parties at Art Ovation, and a free Sunday concert back at The Bay.

That is a lot for a so-called slow season.

Some of it is made for families. Some of it is better for adults. Some of it is free, some is ticketed, and some is the kind of event where you show up for an hour and end up staying longer than planned.

So check the weather, choose your lane, and build the weekend around what fits your energy.

See you out there.

If You Only Do One Thing This Weekend…

If you only do one thing this weekend, make it the St. Armands Craft Festival.

This is one of those easy Sarasota weekend picks that works for locals, visitors, couples, families, and anyone who just wants to stroll, browse, and enjoy being outside without overcomplicating the day.

Go early if you want to beat the heat and the bigger crowds. Walk the booths, explore the Circle, grab lunch or something cold nearby, and turn it into a relaxed Sarasota day.

It is free, it is walkable, it is scenic, and it feels like the kind of weekend event that still works even when summer starts slowing everything down.

🥕 Sarasota Farmers Market

Every Saturday | 7:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Downtown Sarasota off Lemon Avenue
Free admission

Spend Saturday morning at the Sarasota Farmers Market, the original downtown market that has been part of Sarasota since 1979.

This is the “OG” local market — the one every other market around the area tries to emulate. Set in the heart of downtown Sarasota, the market brings together local farmers, growers, artisans, chefs, food vendors, makers, and community organizations every Saturday morning, rain or shine, 52 weeks a year.

You’ll find fresh produce, flowers, prepared foods, baked goods, specialty items, handmade products, and plenty of local flavor. But the real appeal is the atmosphere: people walking Lemon Avenue, running into neighbors, grabbing coffee, browsing vendor tents, and starting the weekend in a way that feels very Sarasota.

If you want the classic Sarasota market experience, this is still the one.

🦸 Dad’s Day Block Party

Saturday, June 6 | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Mall at University Town Center, Sarasota
Free

Celebrate Dad early at The Mall at UTC with a superhero-themed block party featuring mini golf, a photo booth, giveaways, raffles, and Tampa sports team meet-and-greets. It is an easy Saturday family stop, especially if you want something with nearby shade, food, and air conditioning.

🦸‍♂️ SRQCon: Pop Culture to the Max

Saturday, June 6 | 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Selby Public Library, Sarasota
Free

SRQCon returns to Selby Public Library for a free, all-ages pop culture convention with comics, cosplay, gaming, trivia, crafts, scavenger hunts, panels, demonstrations, and a cosplay contest. This is one of the easiest family-friendly picks of the weekend.

🎬 Cinema at The Bay: The Art of Racing in the Rain

Thursday, June 4 | 7:30 p.m.–9:20 p.m.
The Bay, Sarasota
Free

Enjoy a free outdoor movie under the stars at The Bay with The Art of Racing in the Rain, a heartfelt PG film told through the eyes of Enzo, a golden retriever who shares a deep bond with his owner, Denny, an aspiring Formula One race car driver.

It is one of those easy, low-pressure Sarasota nights: bring blankets, chairs, and friends, then settle in on the lawn as the sun goes down. The Nest Café will be serving food, fresh popcorn, and drinks, so you do not need to overthink dinner beforehand.

This is a good pick if you want something relaxed, family-friendly, and free to start the weekend early.

🎶 UTC Live on The Green: Sugar Vibe

Thursday, June 4 | 6:30 p.m.–9:30 p.m.
The Green at UTC, Sarasota
Free

Start the weekend early with live music on The Green at UTC as Sugar Vibe Band brings an outdoor concert to the area near Rocco’s Tacos and Tequila Bar.

This month’s concert also includes a visit from Maverick and Lulu from iHeartRadio’s 92.1 CTQ, who will be on site with a concert ticket giveaway sponsored by Hale Law. Stop by their booth between 6:30 and 8 p.m. for a chance to win tickets to see Chris Stapleton and Lainey Wilson at Raymond James Stadium.

Limited seating is available, so chairs and blankets are recommended. This is a nice Thursday night option if you want live music, a casual crowd, and an easy UTC-area plan without buying a ticket.

💪 UTC FIT: Zumba on The Green

Friday, June 5 | 6:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m.
The Green at UTC, Sarasota
Free

UTC FIT brings a free Zumba class to The Green with Yael Campbell and her Zumba Rockstars.

This is designed to feel more like a dance party than a traditional workout, with music, movement, and plenty of energy to kick off Friday night. No registration is required, so just bring water, wear comfortable clothes, and show up ready to move.

Raining Berries will also be on site with samples and fun surprises after class. If you want to do something healthy, social, and free before heading into the weekend, this is a good one.

🏊 SKYLINE Pool Parties

Saturday & Sunday, June 6–7 | 12 p.m.–6 p.m.
Art Ovation Hotel, Sarasota
$10 early bird | $15 at the door

If your idea of summer fun includes a pool, DJ, dancing, drink specials, and a downtown hotel vibe, SKYLINE Pool Parties at Art Ovation Hotel may be your lane this weekend.

The event runs both Saturday and Sunday, with music, drinks, and a lively poolside atmosphere designed for people who want more of a social summer scene than a quiet afternoon by the water. Early bird tickets are $10 if purchased in advance, or $15 at the door.

This one is more adult-friendly than family-focused, so plan accordingly. It could be a good fit if you want to cool off, meet friends downtown, and turn a hot Sarasota afternoon into something a little more festive.

🥕 Farmers’ Market at Lakewood Ranch

Sunday, June 7 | 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Waterside Place, Lakewood Ranch
Free admission

Spend Sunday morning lakeside at the Farmers’ Market at Lakewood Ranch.

The market features 100+ local vendors with produce, flowers, honey, fresh bread, baked goods, prepared foods, pet products, jewelry, and more. There is usually live music, food, and a Kids’ Zone, which makes this an easy Sunday outing for families.

This is one of those reliable local events that works even when you do not want to make a big plan.

🎤 Sundays at The Bay featuring Jason White

Sunday, June 7 | 6 p.m.–7 p.m.
The Bay, Sarasota
Free

Close out the weekend with a free Sunday evening concert at The Bay featuring Jason White.

White is a Louisiana-born singer-songwriter whose sound blends country, pop, and soul. His influences range from Willie Nelson and Otis Redding to Garth Brooks and Brian McKnight, which gives his music an easy, familiar, sing-along feel.

This is a good Sunday choice if you want something simple and outdoors before the workweek begins. Bring a chair or blanket, enjoy the park, and let the evening cool down a bit while the music plays near the bayfront.

🏃‍♀️ Bonus: Kids Summer Beach Runs

Tuesday, June 9 & Wednesday, June 10 | Registration 5:30 p.m. | Run 6:30 p.m.
Siesta Beach, Siesta Key & Brohard Beach, Venice
Free

Just past the weekend, the Kids Summer Beach Runs return at Siesta Beach and Brohard Beach.

These free one-mile fun runs are open to kids ages 1–17 and are a longtime summer tradition for local families. Tuesday runs take place at Siesta Beach near the pavilion, and Wednesday runs take place at Brohard Beach in Venice near the Venice Fishing Pier and Fins at Sharky’s.

Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., and the run starts at 6:30 p.m. Kids receive a participation ribbon each week, and those who complete four runs earn a free custom T-shirt. It is simple, active, free summer fun — and a good excuse to spend an evening at the beach.

Sarasota Weekend Picks That Also Show How the Area Really Lives

This weekend has that early-summer Sarasota feel.

There are outdoor movies at The Bay, live music at UTC and Lakewood Ranch, Fresh Fridays in downtown Sarasota, Asian food festival energy at J.D. Hamel Park, SRQCon at Selby Public Library, Dad’s Day fun at UTC, the St. Armands Craft Festival, pool parties downtown, Laser Light Nights at The Bishop, and kids getting ready for summer with beach runs on Siesta Key and in Venice.

That mix says a lot about how this area actually lives.

Sarasota is not just the beach photo, the sunset shot, or the real estate listing with the palm tree in the background. It is also the Thursday night movie crowd, the families walking St. Armands Circle, the people dancing downtown at Fresh Fridays, the kids showing up in costume for SRQCon, the Lakewood Ranch crowd gathering for Music on Main, and the parents signing kids up for summer beach runs after dinner.

One thing I tell relocation buyers and sellers all the time: Sarasota is not just about what a property looks like online.

It is about how the area lives day to day.

Where people gather.
How far things really are.
What the weekends feel like.
Which towns match your pace.
Which places feel fun on vacation but may or may not fit your actual life.

This weekend gives you a little window into that.

If you are already local, use it to enjoy the area you live in. If you are thinking about moving here, pay attention to the rhythm behind the events. And if you are preparing to sell, remember that buyers are not just buying square footage. They are buying a version of life they hope will feel right.

That’s your Sarasota weekend — whether you are watching a movie at The Bay, browsing the St. Armands Craft Festival, trying something new at the Asian Food Festival, catching live music, taking the kids to SRQCon, cooling off at a pool party, or keeping it simple with a Sunday evening concert by the bay.

And if you know of an upcoming local event that friends of Sarasota Lifestyle would appreciate hearing about, leave a comment and share it. I’m always looking for good local happenings worth passing along.

See you out there.
