Looking for things to do in Sarasota this weekend?

Summer in Sarasota has its own rhythm. While the crowds are smaller than during peak season, August weekends still offer plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy everything our area has to offer.

This weekend features Music on Main in Lakewood Ranch, UTC Live on the Green, Sarasota Cars & Coffee, family-friendly fun at the Back to School Bash, and two of the area’s favorite farmers markets. Whether you’re looking for live music, a relaxing Saturday morning, or something the whole family can enjoy, you’ll find several worthwhile ways to spend the weekend.

Rather than listing every event on the calendar, I’ve highlighted the experiences I believe are most worth your time. If you’re wondering where I’d begin, here’s my top pick for the weekend.

🎶 Music on Main | Lakewood Ranch

Friday, August 7 | 6:00–9:00 p.m.
Lakewood Ranch Main Street

I’ve always enjoyed how Music on Main brings people together. Long before the band starts playing, families are strolling the sidewalks, restaurants are full, children are dancing near the stage, and neighbors are catching up over dinner and a cold drink. It feels less like a concert and more like the community’s living room for the evening.

This month, Ya Ya & The Diamond Chasers take the stage with a mix of classic rock, country, pop, and today’s hits while food vendors, sponsor booths, and family activities fill Main Street. Whether you stay for an hour or the entire evening, it’s one of those events that’s easy to enjoy at your own pace.

If you’re looking for one place to kick off the weekend, this would be my recommendation. Bring a lawn chair if you like, arrive a little early to enjoy dinner, and don’t be surprised if you end up staying longer than you planned.

🌟 Top Things to Do in Sarasota This Weekend

1️⃣ 🎵 UTC Live on the Green

Thursday, August 6 | 6:30–9:30 p.m.
The Green at UTC

Kick off the weekend a little early with live music under the stars as 22N performs everything from classic rock and country to today’s biggest hits. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, grab dinner or drinks from one of the surrounding restaurants, and enjoy one of UTC’s most relaxing community evenings. It’s an easy way to unwind without having to plan an entire night out.

2️⃣ 🚗 Sarasota Cars & Coffee

Saturday, August 8 | 8:00–10:00 a.m.
The Mall at UTC

Hundreds of exotic, classic, muscle, sports, and import cars fill UTC for one of Sarasota’s most popular monthly gatherings. This month’s event also features a special appearance by Monster Jam, complimentary coffee, live music from a DJ, and supports Sarasota Little League. Whether you’re a serious car enthusiast or simply enjoy seeing remarkable vehicles, it’s a fun way to begin a Saturday morning before heading to breakfast nearby.

3️⃣ 🎒 Back to School Bash

Saturday, August 8 | 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
The Mall at UTC

Families can celebrate the upcoming school year with free backpacks (while supplies last), school supply giveaways, live entertainment, face painting, sports mascots, community organizations, and interactive activities throughout the mall. It’s both entertaining and practical, making it an excellent stop for parents and children preparing for the new school year.

🌴 Before You Go...

Summer weekends in Sarasota are a little different than the rest of the year.

There are fewer large outdoor festivals, and for good reason. Afternoon thunderstorms are simply part of life here. Some days they roll through in 20 minutes. Other days, they linger long enough to postpone or cancel outdoor events altogether. In fact, today’s UTC Live on the Green concert had to be canceled because of the weather.

The good news? Rain rarely ruins an entire weekend.

One of the advantages of living here is knowing how to adapt. Head to the farmers market before the storms build, keep an eye on the radar, or choose an indoor attraction if the forecast looks questionable. Many of Sarasota’s best experiences—from museums and aquariums to restaurants and theaters—are just as enjoyable on a rainy afternoon.

Summer may require a little flexibility, but that’s simply part of learning how to enjoy Sarasota like a local.
