Summer weekends in Sarasota tend to feature fewer major events than during the busy winter season, but there are still several experiences worth planning around.
This weekend, the Summer Circus Spectacular takes center stage, joined by Laser Light Nights at The Bishop Museum, two popular farmers markets and a classic movie at the Sarasota Opera House. Rather than listing every event on the calendar, I’ve selected the ones I believe offer the best experience for both residents and visitors.
Whether you’re looking for something family-friendly, indoors, or simply a reason to get out and enjoy Sarasota, here’s where I’d start this weekend.

Summer Circus Spectacular
One of Sarasota’s signature summer traditions returns as The Ringling and the Circus Arts Conservatory once again present the Summer Circus Spectacular. World-class aerialists, acrobats, jugglers and clowns from around the globe bring traditional circus artistry to life in a fast-paced, family-friendly performance filled with skill, humor and wonder.
The show takes place inside the intimate Historic Asolo Theater, where every seat offers an excellent view of the action. Located on The Ringling’s beautiful museum campus, it’s one of those experiences that’s uniquely Sarasota. If you’ve never experienced the Summer Circus Spectacular, this weekend is an excellent time to discover why it has become a Sarasota summer tradition. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early to allow time for parking and enjoy the grounds before the performance.

Experience an immersive concert unlike anything else as Laser Light Nights return to The Bishop Museum’s planetarium. Enjoy dazzling laser effects synchronized to music from Queen, The Beatles, Elton John, Taylor Swift, Metallica, Foo Fighters, No Doubt, The Weeknd and more.

Waterside Farmers Market

If you’re around Lakewood Ranch or UTC on Sunday morning, the Waterside Farmers Market is one of the area’s nicest weekly traditions. More than 100 vendors offer fresh produce, baked goods, specialty foods, flowers, local art, and handcrafted products along the waterfront. Live music and plenty of outdoor seating make it an easy way to spend a relaxed Sunday morning.

🌴 Before You Go...
One of my favorite details in Sarasota isn’t a beach, restaurant, or attraction.
It’s two simple archways.
One marks the south entrance to Island Park. The other stands farther north, quietly framing the opposite end. They’re nearly identical, and most people probably walk beneath them without ever noticing them.
But subtle things have a way of changing how we experience a place.
Walk through one of those arches on a Friday evening and something shifts. The sounds of traffic fade. Live music drifts across the lawn. Conversations blend with laughter. The smell of dinner mixes with the salty breeze rolling in from Sarasota Bay.
Almost without realizing it, you’ve entered a different pace of life.
Some people gather around O’Leary’s. Others continue toward Marina Jack, where boats slip through the inlet, children laugh & play at the playground & water fountains, visitors photograph the iconic dolphin fountains, and benches invite you to sit for a while.
The arches don’t announce that you’ve arrived somewhere special.
They simply suggest that you slow down.
Sometimes that’s all Sarasota asks of us.
