For many Sarasota families, this has become the unofficial start of Independence Day weekend, and this year’s celebration promises to be the biggest yet as America celebrates its 250th birthday.
The evening features live entertainment, family activities, food vendors, patriotic festivities, and one of the area’s largest fireworks displays over Nathan Benderson Park after sunset.
Arrive early, bring lawn chairs, enjoy dinner from one of the food vendors, and settle in before the sky lights up.
It’s one of those Sarasota traditions that feels even more special when shared with family and friends.

Forget the typical planetarium show. Laser Light Nights transform the museum’s dome into an immersive concert experience featuring synchronized lasers set to music from Queen, Taylor Swift, Elton John, Metallica, The Beatles, Foo Fighters, and more. Every evening features different artists, making it worth returning throughout the summer.

Siesta Beach
Looking ahead to next week, the popular Kids Summer Beach Runs return after the holiday break. Children ages 1–17 can run a free one-mile course on the sand, earn participation ribbons, and work toward a commemorative T-shirt after completing four runs. It’s one of Sarasota County’s longest-running summer family traditions.
